English, maths & science at our Saturday School

Your child will experience 4 hours of quality bespoke English, maths and science tuition each morning, with a 10 min brain break every hour.

The classes will be tailored to areas that your child feel most need from the online survey we will send you after booking. This ensures time is spent where it is most needed in the lessons. Typically each lesson will cover 1 topic to provide an in depth understanding of areas in most need.

Groups will be taught by an experienced subject specialist teacher, many with exam board experience, so they know the curriculum and will tailor and differentiate lessons to suit your child.

Each class will have a maximum of only 10 pupils, which benefit over
1-2-1 tuition due to group/pair work and class discussion.

Being able to learn peer to peer is research backed as highly effective, whilst 10 pupils per class is small enough for tailored and focussed personal help. It's also more friendly and relaxed.

At The Year 10 Summer School we aim to develop students' confidence in the subject, with quality first rate teaching in a creative low stakes atmosphere.

We also believe in the power the praise involved the small steps all pupils take on the road to success to boost their confidence.

Our Curriculum

English:

1) Reading Comprehension & Analysis:
Students are required to read and analyze unseen texts, demonstrating understanding and the ability to interpret meaning.

2) Writing Tasks:
These involve producing original pieces, such as creative writing or non-fiction, where students showcase their writing skills.

3) Spelling, Punctuation, & Grammar:
Ensuring accurate use of language conventions.

4) Speaking & Listening Assessments:
Although often assessed separately, these components evaluate students' oral communication skills.

Maths:

1) Non Calculator Paper:
The non-calculator GCSE Maths paper tests a student's ability to perform mathematical calculations and problem-solving without the aid of a calculator. Since no calculator is allowed, students must be comfortable with mental maths, estimation, and efficient written calculation methods.

2) Calculator Paper:
The GCSE Maths calculator paper allows students to use a calculator, meaning questions can involve more complex calculations. The calculator paper focuses on applying mathematical concepts efficiently, where students must decide when and how to use their calculator effectively while demonstrating problem-solving skills.

3) Reasoning:
Reasoning questions require students to explain, justify, or prove their answers, rather than just calculating them

We cater for the following exam boards:

Science:

1) Biology:
In GCSE Biology we teach the human body, ecosystems, genetics, and microorganisms, helping pupils strengthen their understanding of life processes and how science impacts health and the environment..

2) Chemistry:
In GCSE Chemistry we cover substances, reactions, and structures, linking theory to real-world applications in materials, energy, and industry.

3) Physics:
In GCSE Physics we teach the principles behind forces, energy, electricity, waves, and space, making complex ideas clear and relevant to everyday life.

At our Year 10 Summer School, we support students who study Combined Science (two GCSEs) or Triple Science (three GCSEs).

We cover the core content for all, with extra depth for Triple Science pupils, helping every student close Year 10 gaps and prepare confidently for Year 11
