Frequently Asked Questions

When does the day start?
Classes start at 9am...but pupils arrive at 8.50am.
There will be signs out to direct pupils where to go.

When are toilet the breaks?
Since lesson times are limited, we would ask pupils not to leave the classrooms unless absolutely necessary. Outside of this pupils will get a 10 minute comfort/ brain break every hour.

Do I need to provide a packed lunch?
Pupils can bring their own packed lunch or snack each day if they want

Alternatively we can provide packed lunch options at a cost of £30 per week (vegetarian) or £40 a week for a non vegetarian.*

Lunch is from 1.30pm to 2pm.

Are mobile phones allowed?
Phones are allowed but must be kept away and switched off.
Again we want the pupils to get the most out the lessons as much as possible.

What time does the day end?
Normally 1pm however the go-karting and outdoor activities on Fridays are located offsite, and will rely on third party transport and can be affected by traffic. We will of course text you if we think the pupils might arrive late.

Will there be other people onsite?
Year 10 Summer School is based on a school site which may have tradespeople working onsite at the same time. Pupils will be kept in separate classrooms without work going on. If pupils need to leave a classroom for anything, a member of The Summer School will accompany them.

Are you staff DBS checked?
Yes! All staff have current DBS certificates and experienced teachers and school leaders.

Do you have risk assessments for the activities outside the classroom?
Yes! All our activities have full risk assessments and are comprehensively insured.

What should I do if my child is sick/cannot attend?
Please could you let us know by text message from the phone number you gave when booking with your full name and your child's full name.

Do I get a refund if my child is sick/cannot attend?
When you book your child's place, you are paying for the placement not your child's attendance, therefore we cannot issue a refund for this.

Do I get a refund if I cancel?
We understand that plans change so please contact us if your plans change to discuss your cancellation.

If you cancel before 14 days the start date, we will issue a full refund.

If you cancel before 7 days the start date, we will issue a 50% refund.

If you cancel within 7 days we will endeavour to fill your child's place. I we cannot, then unfortunately we will not be able to issue a refund.

Unfortunately all business do have costs that we have to cover and we do hope you understand.

My child has additional learning needs, SEND, ADHD etc. Will you be able to support them?
Due to the nature of the summer school being a short term course with lots of change each day, in new environments and people, many of which may be new, this may not be suitable for all children.
